About Games that are made in GMS 1.4

Posted by fuegon - May 30th, 2020

hi i'm working on a point and click adventure in game maker studio 1.4 right now.

two questions:

  1. does this site allow people to upload games that either link to a download page? like if i, for instance uploaded a swf that just redirected to the download page? wouldn't that be deceitful in a way or something?
  2. is there anyway to make gms 1.4 convert a game into html5 format? or will i have to buy gms 2?

There's an html5 export for gms 1.4, so you won't have to buy gms 2 for it. I've used that export for gms 2 and it can be buggy at times so I would advise testing your game in an early stage of development with html5 to iron out the bugs. I don't know much about whether or not the site would allow you to link a submission to a download page but I doubt you're allowed to do that.

my version of gms 1.4 does not have html 5 export im not sure if it was a one time thing or what

@Catalystl @fuegon You might have to buy a license for it.

Not a GMS user but this seems to suggest it's possible: https://help.yoyogames.com/hc/en-us/articles/216753948-GameMaker-Studio-Settings-for-Html5
Not sure if you're allowed to upload a redirect. Game submissions are somewhat self moderated by the community, so a redirect is likely to get blammed (rejected) by voters when it goes under judgement. However, you should be able to post a link on your news feed and also on your profile page. itch.io might be better suited for a game that requires a download.
